Fix our nation’s broken immigration system; Because we are a nation of immigrants, and we need to treat all people who come to the United States with dignity and respect. Immigrants get the job done, according to Hamilton. Our immigrant population is incredibly diverse–from people working in highly technical fields to people willing to do jobs that are necessary, but undesired by most American citizens.
Help stop the graying of America. America’s demographics are facing a crisis that will affect health care access and our entire economy–by 2030, there will be more Americans over 60 than under 18, and this disconcerting reality will turn our financial pyramid upside down. A healthy immigration system can help forestall this aging process and revitalize the American economy.
Improve border security; so people are not entering the United States undetected, undocumented, and unchecked. Illegal immigration is dangerous for all involved but particularly for women and children who are trafficked and abused.
Focus enforcement on targeting criminals, not breaking up families. Focusing law enforcement efforts on traffickers and those profiting on the desperate can curtail the dangerous practice that costs lives weekly.
Increase family-based and employment based immigrant visas. Currently, major corporations have little difficulty attracting talent by utilizing the visa program, but small businesses and ordinary people have no access to these programs. We need to level the playing field to bring talent to our shores equitably.
Improve the naturalization process. Currently, red tape can take law-abiding legal residents five to ten years to go through the process.
Provide a path for undocumented aliens to apply/earn citizenship. Including deportation of undocumented immigrants who committed serious crimes, yet undocumented immigrants within our borders who clear a background check, work hard, and pay taxes should have a path to earn full participation in America.
