TEANECK, NJ — Today, June 18, 2022, U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) honored Juneteenth by joining the community and taking part in Teaneck’s Juneteenth Silent Walk to the Historic Burial Grounds on Pomander Walk. African slaves that worked on New Jersey farms were laid to rest on these sacred grounds in Teaneck.

Juneteenth, celebrated on June 19, commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in 1865, celebrates freedom, and honors the contributions of the Black community to our nation.

Last year, Gottheimer voted for bipartisan legislation to make Juneteenth a full federal holiday.

Video of the walk can be found  here.
