NORTH JERSEY — U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) hosted his 74th “Cup of Joe with Josh” Town Hall on Facebook Live, joined by Maywood Councilmember Jacquie Flynn, to discuss how the Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill will improve North Jersey’s infrastructure, including ports, roads, rails, and bridges, helping build the Gateway Tunnel, address supply chain issues, create jobs, and boost our local economy.

It’s always great to connect with residents across the Fifth District,” said Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5). “I’m going to continue working hard to make life more affordable for North Jersey residents, fix supply chain issues, address our crumbling infrastructure, get critical goods like baby formula to families that need it, and support our law enforcement, veterans, and seniors.”
Maywood Councilmember Jacquie Flynn, speaking about Gottheimer’s bipartisan, bicameral Invest to Protect Act, said, “Right now, we just hired two officers and it was a wonderful day…but we are still understaffed because it is really expensive and anything we can do to get help, so that we can fund our officers in a way that doesn’t blow a hole in our budget, is just absolutely critical, so I really hope that this goes through.”

Some of Gottheimer’s recent initiatives to help North Jersey residents include:
- Gottheimer was named the most bipartisan Democratic Member of the House of Representatives.
- Gotttheimer just met with U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg to announce how investments from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill, which Gottheimer helped shape and pass, will improve North Jersey’s infrastructure, including ports, roads, rails, and bridges, help build the Gateway Tunnel, address supply chain issues, create jobs, and boost our local economy.
- Gottheimer stood in solidarity with local leaders and the North Jersey community at an Interfaith Vigil Against Hate in Teaneck following this month’s tragic mass shootings.
- Gottheimer’s bipartisan bill, the Invest to Protect Act, was unanimously passed through the Senate Judiciary Committee. The legislation will make critical, targeted investments in local police departments to ensure our officers have the resources they need to keep communities and themselves safe.
- Gottheimer passed a provision in the U.S. House of Representatives to ensure that veterans in North Jersey and nationwide are prioritized to receive access to high-quality job training, workforce development, and career services.
- Gottheimer, during Jewish American Heritage Month, helped lead a bipartisan resolution to condemn rising antisemitism, which passed the House of Representatives 420 to 1.
- Gottheimer helped lead a request to the House Appropriations Committee to restore the State and Local Tax (SALT) deduction and provide relief for hard-working, middle class families in New Jersey.
- Following legislation introduced by Gottheimer and a bipartisan group of 19 other Members of Congress, the President recently invoked the Defense Production Act to increase the production of baby formula, to help ensure that no baby in our country goes hungry and that no mother or father has to struggle to find the food to feed their child.
- Gottheimer introduced Miranda’s Law — bus safety legislation named after Miranda Vargas, a 10-year-old fifth grader who lost her life in the crash — to protect children on America’s school buses.
- Gottheimer announced the new American Rescue Plan Firefighter Grant Program, which claws back federal investment back from Washington for New Jersey firefighters, ensuring our fire departments have the resources to not only keep our communities, families, and brave first responders safe, but also help lower property taxes and make life more affordable for North Jersey residents.
- Gottheimer introduced and passed bipartisan, bicameral legislation, the Empowering States to Protect Seniors from Bad Actors Act, in a 371 to 48 vote to help end financial scams targeting our seniors, including stopping the unending stream of robocalls and unwanted texts.
- Gottheimer announced a new “Stay in Jersey” campaign and urged all NYC-based businesses to encourage and promote New Jersey workers to stay and work from Jersey, and not make their Jersey-based employees go back to their long, expensive daily commute. By avoiding the expensive tolls, the cost of parking and gas, and New York’s proposed congestion tax, Jersey commuters will save nearly $20,000 a year to “Stay in Jersey.”
