Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) received the 2021 Medical Care Champion Award from the Iowa Physician Assistant Society (IPAS). This award recognizes a lawmaker who acted as a champion for physician assistants and demonstrated outstanding support of affordable and accessible quality medical care.

“I’m honored to receive the 2021 Medical Care Champion Award from the Iowa Physician Assistant Society. Physician assistants play a critical role in our health care system, working across various practices and specialties. Especially in Iowa, where physician assistants help keep our rural health care running,” Grassley said. “I enjoyed meeting with students and faculty from the University of Dubuque’s physician assistant program yesterday. As always, I plan to bring their commonsense perspectives to the policymaking tables in Washington.”

IPAS thanked Grassley for his work advocating for physician assistants. As Senate Finance Committee chairman last Congress, Grassley worked to include language in the year-end funding package permitting direct payments to physician assistants for their services under Medicare.

Yesterday, Grassley also participated in a Q&A with students and faculty at the University of Dubuque physician assistant program as part of his annual 99 county meetings. They discussed a variety of topics including Grassley’s work to lower the cost of prescription drugs, over-the-counter hearing aids, the costs of insulin and his investigation, big tech, the surge in fentanyl overdoses and the COVID-19 delta variant.
