Yesterday, Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (MI-12) toured the North American International Auto Show in Detroit with President Biden to highlight investments in the U.S. automotive industry and American electric vehicle innovation.
“A century ago, Michigan put the world on wheels, and today we're leading the way in transition to our electric vehicle future,” said Dingell. “I’m grateful President Biden accepted my invitation to come to our great state and get a first-hand look at the exciting new technologies being unveiled here in the heart and soul of the auto industry. This visit demonstrates that Michigan remains in the driver’s seat of innovation and next-generation vehicle technology, and with continued investments in the mobility industry, we are going to strengthen domestic manufacturing, advance research, and create good-paying jobs across the country.”
“You all know I'm a car guy. I'm here because the auto show and the vehicles here give me so many reasons to be optimistic about the future. For most of the last century, we led the world - by a significant margin - because we invested in our people, we invested in ourselves," said President Biden. "We risk losing the edge as a nation, and China and the rest of the world are catching up. But not anymore. Now we're choosing to build a better America, an America that’s confronting the climate crisis, with America's workers leading the way. We're lucky to have the most skilled autoworkers in the world and that’s not hyperbole."
U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, EPA Administrator Michael Regan, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, UAW President Ray Curry, Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and Representatives Fred Upton (MI-06), Brenda Lawrence (MI-14), Andy Levin (MI-09), Haley Stevens (MI-11), and Rashida Tlaib (MI-13) also joined the visit.
