Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (MI-12) today announced that Washtenaw County will receive $750,000 in federal grant funding from the Offices of Justice Programs and Juvenile Justice Delinquency Prevention within the Department of Justice (DOJ). The grant funding will be used to strengthen and expand access to Family-Based Alternative Sentencing Programs (FBASP).
“Alternatives to incarceration saves taxpayers money, strengthen families and communities, and reduce the likelihood of offenders reoffending by providing tailored substance abuse and mental health treatment,” said Dingell. “This critical funding from the DOJ will help rehabilitate offenders, make our communities safer, and keep families together by expanding access to Washtenaw’s Community Corrections programs.”
Washtenaw County partners with several community agencies to provide appropriate alternatives to incarceration for eligible offenders, including substance abuse and mental health care, and behavioral health services.
