REP. SALAZAR CALLS OUT SECRETARY BLINKEN FOR BREAKING HIS WORD AND IGNORING CUBAN EXILES

Florida

Today, Congresswoman María Elvira Salazar sent Secretary of State Antony Blinken a letter calling out his broken promise to include the Cuban exile community in any talks with the brutal Castro regime and demanding to be included in the upcoming meeting the Biden administration is set to have with Carlos Fernández de Cossío.

"Secretary Blinken gave me his word when testifying before Congress last year and he has broken it," said Congresswoman Salazar. "The administration failed to uphold its promise by consulting with the Cuban-American exile community. In South Florida, we know that you cannot trust the murderous Cuban communist regime. To ensure that the voices of my constituents are heard, I’m calling on the State Department to include me in their ill-advised meeting with the communist government."

During a March 10th, 2021 House Foreign Affairs Committee hearing, in response to a question from Rep. Salazar, Secretary Blinken committed to “consult with the Cuban-American exile community” before engaging in any conversations with the Castro Regime.
