Today, the congresswoman Maria Elvira Salazar ( R-FL ) asked President Biden to immediately give the green light to provide Internet access to the Cuban people.

Representative Salazar was accompanied by Governor Ron DeSantis, Deputy Governor Jeanette Núñez, Congressman Carlos Giménez and the Commissioner of the Federal Communications Commission ( FCC ) Brendan Carr, in this urgent demand.

The Castro regime has violently suppressed the massive pro-democracy protests that have spread throughout the island of Cuba. The regime has cut off Internet access to prevent the Cuban people from showing repression on social networks.

Congresswoman Salazar has been working closely with public and private sector partners who are willing to provide the necessary technology to boost Internet access. The world must witness the brutality facing the Cuban people right now.

“ We must restore the internet on the island, information is power. We need President Biden to have the will to act and give the green light to implement these technologies, now, ” said Congresswoman Salazar.

“ What communist leaders like the least is the focus of the international world, and that is the power of Internet connectivity, ” said the FCC commissioner, Brendan Carr.

“ The only thing that communist regimes fear the most is the truth, and if we can help Cubans communicate with each other and with the outside world, that truth will be decisive, So Mr. President, now is the time to stand up and act, ” said Governor Ron DeSantis.

“ Governor DeSantis and I will continue to pressure the Biden Administration not only to provide Internet access to the Cuban people, but also oppose the despotic communist regime of Castro and Díaz-Canel, ” said Deputy Governor Jeanette Nunez.

“ The Cuban government knows how important the Internet is and to repress the will of the people and Cuba, and of course as they once did ... ” said Congressman Giménez.

Congresswoman Salazar currently represents Florida's beautiful 27th congressional district, which includes most of the city of Miami, its suburbs and beaches. She is a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives and is the only woman who is part of the Western Hemisphere Subcommittee.
