State Rep. Jessica E. Miranda (D-Forest Park) today announced that Heritage Hill Elementary, Stewart Elementary and Woodlawn Elementary Schools, each in the Princeton City School district, are recipients of the Class of 2021 Purple Star Award from the Ohio Department of Education. The award recognizes the schools’ dedication to supporting their students from military families.

“I applaud these military-family friendly schools for earning the Purple Star Award this fall,” said Rep. Miranda. “There is no doubt that our schools go above and beyond to provide a supportive environment for students of military families, and in doing so the schools are recognizing the service of their family members serving our country.”

To qualify for the Purple Star Award, schools must have a faculty member who serves as a point of contact and as a liaison for military students and their families. The liaison must undergo professional development to learn about special considerations for military students and their families under federal law. Schools must also have a page on their websites providing resources for military families.

Applications for the next round of Purple Star Awards will open on Nov. 1, 2021 and will be due by Dec. 15, 2021.
