Congressman Chris Pappas (NH-01) released the following statement on the 49th anniversary of Roe v. Wade:
"For 49 years Roe v. Wade has been the law of the land," said Congressman Pappas. "But as we mark this milestone, we know the fate of this precedent, and access to reproductive health care has never been more uncertain. Relentless partisan attacks at the state and federal level as well as the extreme majority on the Supreme Court threatens women's rights and bodily autonomy. Even in New Hampshire, where access to abortion, reproductive health care, and family planning services have broad, bipartisan support, our Governor, Legislature, and Executive Council have pushed a dangerous anti-choice, anti-health care agenda. This is a deeply personal issue for Granite Staters, and this fight is one that we simply cannot afford to lose. I helped pass the Women's Health Protection Act in the House to codify Roe v. Wade into law, and it is essential that the Senate follows our lead. We cannot allow radical politicians and judges to turn back the clock on women's rights, and I remain committed to protecting the right to safe and legal abortion and reproductive health care for all Americans."
