Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ re-election campaign today announced “That Is Who Ron DeSantis Is,” a statewide TV and digital ad featuring First Lady Casey DeSantis, as she shares with Floridians, for the first time, the behind-the-scenes story of Governor Ron DeSantis’ support through her battle with breast cancer.

She knows who he is better than anyone, and in this ad, she shares how Governor DeSantis fights for Florida the same way he fights for his family.

Background:

  • A native Floridian with blue-collar roots, Governor Ron DeSantis attended Dunedin High School.
  • He played in the 1991 Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
  • He worked his way through Yale University, where he graduated with honors and was the captain of the varsity baseball team. Governor DeSantis also graduated with honors from Harvard Law School.
  • He then volunteered to join the U.S. Navy. During his active-duty service, he deployed to Iraq as an adviser to a U.S. Navy SEAL commander in support of the SEAL mission in Fallujah, Ramadi and the rest of Al Anbar province.
  • His military decorations include the Bronze Star Medal for Meritorious Service and the Iraq Campaign Medal.
  • The Governor and First Lady are the proud parents of their daughters, Madison (5) and Mamie (2), and their son, Mason (4).
  • Governor DeSantis first announced the First Lady was diagnosed with breast cancer on October 4, 2021.
  • First Lady DeSantis underwent six rounds of chemotherapy, surgery, and radiation.
  • First Lady DeSantis traveled across Florida to visit with cancer patients to promote the importance of early screening and to provide support to families affected by cancer, with a specific emphasis on pediatric cancer patients.
  • In August 2022, First Lady Casey DeSantis launched Florida Cancer Connect.
