DENVER — On Indigenous Peoples’ Day, the Bennet campaign is recognizing and celebrating the enormous contributions that Indigenous peoples have made to Colorado and our country. The history and culture of the many Tribal communities who have called Colorado home helped shape it into the state it is today.
“Michael recognizes the significant role that Indigenous peoples have played in shaping our history, and the great harm that our country has inflicted upon them.” says Bennet for Colorado spokesperson Georgina Beven. “Throughout his entire career in the Senate, Michael has worked to honor the sovereignty and contributions of Colorado’s Tribal communities by ensuring their voices are heard.”
Michael has worked to protect places around the country that hold great significance to Indigenous communities, including Chimney Rock National Monument in Colorado and Bear Ears National Monument in Utah. Last week, Michael was at Sand Creek National Historic Site with Interior Secretary Deb Haaland to announce the addition of almost 3,500 acres to the site, which Michael championed. The bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act that Michael helped pass last year included his legislation to improve Tribal access to clean water, and his legislation to expand access to broadband in rural and Tribal areas.
Michael is running for reelection so he can continue to honor the contributions and sovereignty of Colorado’s Tribal communities by bringing their voices with him to the Senate.
