Iowa

Fresh off the heels of a VoteVets endorsement, today, Admiral Michael Franken earned the endorsement of Retired Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Vindman.

At the age of three, Vindman and his family fled Ukraine to New York City where they lived out the American dream. Vindman retired after an illustrious career as an expert in foreign policy. He served at the National Security Council as an adviser on Ukraine and Director of European Affairs. He was awarded the Purple Heart after a roadside bombing in Iraq in 2004, and he rose to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in 2015.

Franken is running to unseat Senator Grassley who has held the seat for over 40 years.  Franken has amassed a list of over 40 public endorsements from leaders across the state, including current and former members of the Iowa legislature.

“Retired Lieutenant Colonel Vindman is the epitome of courage and integrity, and I am honored to have his endorsement,” said Franken. “Throughout his career, he never shied away from tough decisions while keeping Americans safe. He is a man of pure valor who does what is right and stands up to bullies like Donald Trump.”

“I am proud to endorse Admiral Mike Franken for Senate in Iowa against Chuck Grassley. A three-star admiral with over 36 years of service in the U.S. Navy, Mike Franken would be the most senior military person ever elected to the Senate. With a wealth of knowledge and experience across the globe, Mike Franken would bring a lifetime of much-needed public service and duty to Washington. During these uncertain times, we need to elect Admiral Mike Franken to the U.S. Senate to protect democracy here at home and abroad.” Retired Lieutenant Colonel, Alexander Vindman
