Two large Maryland unions, SEIU Local 500 and 1199SEIU, today endorsed former Rep. Donna Edwards in the Congressional race in Maryland’s 4th District. The SEIU Locals collectively represent more than 30,000 education support staff and healthcare workers in Maryland.
In making its decision, the unions cited Edwards’ strong record representing working people during her nearly eight years previously serving in Congress.
“Donna Edwards has stood with working people her entire career, and she was a strong supporter of labor during her time in Congress. We know she has working people’s backs, and we are proud to endorse her bid to return to the House,” said Lisa Brown, Executive Vice President of 1199SEIU, the largest healthcare union in the Baltimore region and nationally.
