In Congress, Donna will use her seniority to lead the fight to pass Medicare for All, protect reproductive rights, and shore up our public health and health infrastructure to fix the disparities that Covid exposed.
Medicare for All
Raising her son as a single working mom, Donna faced a tough choice - to get health insurance for him, she had to go without it for herself. As luck would have it, an illness resulted in a trip to the emergency room for herself that left her with thousands of dollars of medical debt, and she almost lost their home as a result. Too many families in our district today face the same problem, despite the tremendous gains through the Affordable Care Act (aka “ObamaCare”), which Donna co-sponsored and helped pass in Congress.
That’s why she was an original co-sponsor of Medicare for All. She will use her seniority to lead the fight to pass it when she returns to Congress. The fact is, the current system fails too many of us. It’s time to decouple healthcare from your job and insurance companies, which means no longer trading salary increases for health benefits, and taking the burden off small businesses that find it difficult to afford decent health plans. Medicare for All simply drops the age threshold to allow every American to get access to the healthcare services they need when they need them, from their provider of choice. Medicare for All will expand benefits to include dental, vision, and hearing coverage, along with comprehensive primary care, women’s health, emergency room care, mental health care, behavioral services, and prescription drug coverage.
