Donna knows firsthand how the lack of paid sick leave can force workers to choose between caring for themselves and their loved ones or being able to pay their next bills or lose their jobs. In Congress, Donna will fight for policy that puts our families first and ensures our families have the ability to care for their loved ones, and that our children receive the high-quality education they deserve.
Affordable Childcare & Long Term Care
Marylanders are squeezed between the high cost of quality childcare and long-term care for aging parents. Donna will work to bring down costs and make sure that workers are well paid for the important work they do.
As the pandemic continues to ebb and flow, too many parents are being held back from returning to their jobs because of the lack of affordable childcare options, and we’re seeing massive labor shortages and supply chain disruptions as a result. It’s in our economic best interest, as well as the best interest of working families, to fund quality child care options for families that need it. In Maryland and across the country, working families are struggling to cope with child care expenses that are one of the biggest financial burdens they face, exceeding costs for in-state college tuition, housing, transportation, and food. For working parents, access to safe and high-quality child care is a necessity to make ends meet.
Many families are sandwiched – caring for their own children and aging parents and working. As the nature of work and our population changes, we must also ensure that our seniors and persons living with disabilities have access to affordable, quality long-term care solutions and are able to receive the assistance they need. This includes options to age in place and to receive quality home care. Donna will work to bring affordable solutions for our nation’s families, ensuring that workers providing these services are paid living wages and are rewarded for caring for some of our most vulnerable.
