In Congress, Donna will use her seniority to fight for comprehensive immigration reform, and for the investments that Maryland’s immigrant communities deserve.
Immigration
Donna believes in a comprehensive approach to immigration that respects human dignity and places those who have been in the country for years, paying taxes, growing businesses, and making positive contributions, on a pathway to citizenship. In Congress, Donna fought to make the DREAM Act a reality for all our families. She voted for the Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act of 2010 to fulfill the hopes and promises of our young people to pursue their education, contribute to their communities, and dream for opportunities for themselves and their families. When Republicans blocked it in the Senate, she joined with statewide stakeholders to pass a ballot initiative to make the DREAM Act available for Maryland families.
Donna supports continued temporary protected status (TPS) for those who have been displaced due to war and natural disasters. She is committed to ensuring that those seeking asylum are heard in a timely manner and have adequate counsel to present their claims. Donna also knows that the by-product of a broken immigration system is that too many families are left in the shadows, denied fair wages, affordable housing, and an education that prepares them for a 21st-century economy. This broken system depresses wages and opportunities for all of us. In Congress, Donna will use her seniority to fight for comprehensive immigration reform, and for the investments that Maryland’s immigrant communities deserve.
