U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development today awarded a grant of $1,932,000 and approved a loan of $1,932,000 to Wythe County to provide public water service. Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) issued the following statement:

“Some of the residents of Wythe County are currently serviced by private wells that suffer from both quality and quantity issues. Today’s award by USDA Rural Development of $3,864,000 will support a major upgrade to the county’s public water systems, allowing many families to move from less reliable water sources to public water services. This is a significant investment to correct the health hazard for the people of Wythe County.”

Further Information

According to USDA Rural Development, the $1,932,000 grant and $1,932,000 loan will support the installation of approximately eight miles of four-inch, six-inch, and eight-inch water line; one pump station; 92 water meters; 28 fire hydrants; and related appurtenances.
