Griffith Statement On H.R. 8373

Virginia

Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) issued the following statement after voting against H.R. 8373:

“The Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs did not affect contraception, and no upcoming cases appear likely to affect it.

“I do not oppose the availability of contraception, but this bill is purely messaging, not policy. It is poorly written and was rushed to the floor without going through the committee process. The definition of contraception in this bill is so broad that it could mandate availability of abortifacients and products that have not been approved by the FDA.

“Speaker Pelosi once again uses a non-issue to distract from the failures of her majority.”
