Fact Check: Budd Voted Against Funding The Police

North Carolina

ORGANIZATIONS IN THIS STORY

Congressman Ted Budd has failed North Carolina law enforcement and voted against funding the police for the past five years.

  • In 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021, Budd voted against legislation that provided billions of dollars in funding for police and millions for North Carolina law enforcement, including:
  • $32 million total allocated to law enforcement agencies in North Carolina.
  • $750,000 in funding to hire and retain police for Graham, North Carolina – a city in Budd’s district.
  • $7 million total to support efforts in North Carolina to combat the opioid crisis.
  • In 2021, Budd voted against bipartisan legislation to fund police departments despite Senators Tillis and Burr’s vote for it, which they called a “top priority” and an “essential and long overdue” package.
  • Former Hoke County Sheriff said Budd’s “campaign for U.S. Senate has been a bad attempt to airbrush over his failed record of voting against the best interests of his constituents time and time again.”

In the U.S. Senate, Cheri will fight for funding and resources for law enforcement across North Carolina.
