Today, Congressman Chris Pappas (NH-01) released the following statement after President Joe Biden announced that his administration would ban the importation of Russian oil and other forms of energy into the United States.

"This week I joined a bipartisan push to ban the import of Russian oil, gas, and other forms of energy to further cripple Russia's ability to fund its war machine in Ukraine, and I'm pleased that the Biden Administration has heeded our calls and taken this necessary step," said Congressman Chris Pappas. "As we face rising energy prices at home as a result of Russia's invasion, we must do all we can to cut costs and bolster supplies, including releasing additional barrels from our strategic reserves, encouraging lease holders to fully utilize existing permits, holding oil companies accountable, and suspending the gas tax to give Granite state families relief. We must all stand with Ukraine and its fight for freedom and democracy, and I remain committed to supporting our allies and protecting American consumers."

This news follows Congressman Pappas's effort to help introduce bipartisan legislation that would ban Russian oil imports to hold Putin accountable for his invasion of Ukraine and further deprive his regime of the resources necessary to wage his illegal war.

Pappas helped introduce a bipartisan resolution calling on the International Criminal Court to immediately prosecute Vladimir Putin for war crimes should anything happen to Ukrainian President Zelenksyy, in light of reports of Russian assassination squads targeting the Ukrainian President and Putin's track record of poisoning dissidents and Russian enemies.

Pappas has repeatedly called for sanctions against Russia should Vladimir Putin invade Ukraine and urged unity among NATO allies in standing against Vladimir Putin; and has called for President Biden to take all measures necessary to ensure that Vladimir Putin's premeditated, illegal invasion of Ukraine does not derail the momentum of the U.S. economy's recovery.
