Today, Charlie Crist’s campaign for governor announced that the Jewish Democratic Council of America (JDCA) has endorsed Charlie Crist to be the next governor of Florida.
JDCA’s endorsement follows Crist’s growing momentum in the race for Florida governor, with Crist also earning the endorsement of the nonpartisan environmental group, VoteWater, which previously endorsed DeSantis in 2018. The Crist campaign also recently raised nearly $1 million from national donors and leads DeSantis in donations to his campaign account since the primary.
“I’m incredibly proud to earn the endorsement of the Jewish Democratic Council of America as we work to defeat Ron DeSantis, fight the anti-Semitism increasingly plaguing our state, and bring decency and kindness back to Florida,” said Charlie Crist. “Governor DeSantis has refused to condemn the anti-Semitic rhetoric and hateful acts that have happened under his watch. It’s despicable. Florida deserves a governor who stands up for every person’s rights and freedoms regardless of race, nationality, or religion. I’ll be that governor.”
“Across the country, there’s a clear contrast between Democratic candidates who share our values, including defense of democracy and abortion access, and Republicans whose values are antithetical to those of American Jews,” said JDCA CEO Halie Soifer. “JDCA is proud to support these Democrats because they align with the priorities of Jewish voters, who will help to ensure they win in November.”
“Rep. Charlie Crist (FL) and Gov. Kathy Hochul (NY) are working to defeat extremist Republicans running for governor in my home state of Florida and many Florida Jews’ home state of New York,” said JDCA Chair Ron Klein. “The whole country has witnessed the inhumanity of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, whose priorities are completely contrary to those of Florida Jews on issues such as immigration, abortion, and democracy, and we’re aiming to elect Charlie Crist and defeat DeSantis in November.”
