Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), Ranking Member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, issued the following comment on the announced closure of two Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention facilities.
“We must ensure everyone detained in ICE facilities is treated with dignity. We should accept nothing less. The decision earlier today to close two ICE detention centers cannot be the only way to ensure safety and dignity. And it cannot be the beginning of a concerted effort by the Biden Administration to undermine enforcement of our immigration laws by eliminating ICE’s ability to detain illegal immigrants across the country. Robust enforcement of our immigration laws and treating those in immigration detention with dignity and respect are not mutually exclusive ideas.”
