Today, Congressman Chris Pappas (NH-01), Co-Chair of the Congressional Maple Caucus, and Congresswoman Annie Kuster (NH-02), introduced a resolution to honor March 19-20 as "New Hampshire Maple Weekend". The resolution recognizes the unique contributions and importance of maple syrup producers and their families to New Hampshire.
"Maple sugar production is a critical part of New Hampshire's economy, a driver for seasonal tourism, and has been part of our way of life for centuries," said Congressman Pappas. "As we mark ‘New Hampshire Maple Weekend', I'm pleased that legislation recently passed through Congress and signed into law will provide additional funding and support for our maple industry. I'll keep fighting in Congress to support our small businesses and industries that help drive our tourism economy."
"I think we can all agree, New Hampshire is home to the best maple syrup in the country, and it is important we celebrate the incredible producers and local farms that make Granite State maple possible," said Rep. Kuster. "I was proud to join Congressman Pappas in designating this upcoming weekend to celebrate the role of maple syrup in our economy and culture, and I will continue working to bring the voices of Granite State maple producers to Congress."
The FY 2022 appropriations package recently enacted into law, which Pappas and Kuster helped pass through the House, included $7 million in funding for the Acer Access and Development program to provide research, development, marketing, and sustainability grants to support the domestic maple syrup industry, an increase of $1 million above the FY 2021 enacted level.
