The New York Post today published an opinion piece from Corey DeAngelis who compared Gretchen Whitmer's patently false claims on the debate stage that kids were only out of school for three months to her “Terry McAuliffe moment.”

Tudor Dixon immediately called Whitmer out during the debate saying, “Perhaps she wasn’t paying attention to what was actually happening. We even had schools that were closed this year. Maybe she thinks she can convince you that schools were only closed for three months, but you know better because your students are the ones that are desperately behind.”

DeAngelis went on to write, "Whitmer’s debate statement just wasn’t true. But it’s no wonder why she’d want to distance herself from school closures that hurt kids academically, mentally and socially. Indeed, the Nation’s Report Card released this week showed the largest declines in math test scores in three decades. The National Assessment of Educational Progress reported test scores for 26 urban public-school districts. Detroit Public Schools performed the worst."

DeAngelis continued saying, "Dixon is right. Parents know better. Families aren’t going to forget what happened to their kids over the past couple years. They experienced the struggles with school closures — and they’re still dealing with the harm these decisions inflicted upon their children."

In his closing argument he said, "Whitmer vetoed bills to empower Michigan families with school choice. And while she gaslights the public about her role in school closures, Dixon embraces parental rights in education. In her closing remarks, she said, 'I will put parents over politics. I will put students over systems.'"
