Marking Flag Day, Pappas Introduces Bipartisan Legislation to Reauthorize Fallen Heroes Flag Program
Today, Congressman Chris Pappas (NH-01), alongside Nicole Malliotakis (NY-11), led 34 of their colleagues in introducing bipartisan legislation to reauthorize the Fallen Heroes Flag Act of 2016.
Pappas's legislation would reauthorize the Fallen Heroes Flag Program for an additional five years. The program provides a flag flown over the Capitol to the families of firefighters, law enforcement officers, and other first responders who have lost their lives in the line of duty
"Flag Day is an opportunity to celebrate our national symbol and most importantly to recognize what that symbol stands for and those who have served our country and communities," said Congressman Chris Pappas. "The Fallen Heroes Flag Program honors the sacrifice of all our law enforcement and public safety officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty, and I'm proud to introduce legislation to extend this program and continue this important tradition. Public safety is a top priority for me, and I'll continue fighting for action to honor and support members of law enforcement in Congress."
"Our police, firefighters, and first responders put their lives on the line every day to protect our communities," said Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis. "For those who've lost their lives in the line of duty, providing their families a Capitol-flown flag is the least Congress can do to honor their service. I'm proud to join my colleagues in reauthorizing the Fallen Heroes Flag Program to ensure those who've made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation are never forgotten."
