The Professional Fire Fighters of New Hampshire (PFFNH) today endorsed Senator Maggie Hassan for re-election, citing her commitment to public safety, including her efforts to secure resources to protect fire fighters and support their life-saving work. PFFNH represents more than 2,000 active and retired professional fire fighters and paramedics in 41 local unions across the Granite State.

“Senator Hassan is a longtime ally of our fire fighters. She has always prioritized the safety of New Hampshire citizens, and she’s advocated for the resources that Granite State fire departments need to keep our communities safe. From delivering funding to update our infrastructure and equipment, to ensuring benefits for fire fighters who are injured while in the line of duty, Senator Hassan is there for us. Senator Hassan has always had our backs, and we are proud to stand with her,” said Brian Ryll, President of the Professional Fire Fighters of New Hampshire.

“I’m grateful for the support of the Professional Fire Fighters of New Hampshire. Our fire fighters put their lives on the line every day to respond to emergencies and keep Granite State communities safe. They deserve support to conduct their life-saving work, which is why I’ve proudly partnered with them to deliver the equipment and tools they need. I look forward to continuing to partner with PFFNH to strengthen public safety and support our first responders across the state,” said Senator Hassan.

Senator Hassan has consistently stood with Granite State fire fighters. Senator Hassan passed emergency relief for state and local governments to assist fire departments during the COVID-19 pandemic. She worked to increase funding for the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) and the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) Grants programs through the American Rescue Plan that was signed into law. Both programs have directly helped New Hampshire fire departments; most recently, the Berlin Fire Department was able to replace a decades-old fire engine thanks to this program and Senator Hassan’s advocacy. Senator Hassan also supported a bipartisan bill that was signed into law to deliver better access to benefits for first responders and their families following injury or death in the line of duty. Additionally, she helped introduce bipartisan legislation to help protect fire fighters from PFAS chemicals, which pose risks to their health and safety.
