U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan (D-NH) released the following statement on the U.S. Senate voting today on a strong bipartisan basis to ratify the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocols, which will phase down the use of super-pollutants found in many consumer products.

“Today’s bipartisan vote ratifying the Kigali Amendment is not only good news for our environment, it is a boon for American manufacturing and will help lower energy costs for families and businesses. This is a win-win and ensures that the U.S. will be a global leader for the next generation of energy-efficient consumer products, such as everyday items like air condition units and refrigerators, which in turn will boost exports and grow manufacturing jobs right here at home. This measure also helps us to outcompete countries like China, who would like nothing more than to corner the market on these popular consumer goods without having to compete with American innovation. Our bipartisan vote to ratify the amendment is an important step forward in our efforts to combat climate change and strengthen our economy.”
