Today, Governor Jared Polis wrote to President Joe Biden, urging him to extend the federal pause on student loans, to provide real relief and put money back in the pockets of hardworking Americans and Coloradans.
“Across our state and country, families are working hard to make ends meet. The past two years of suspended payments have allowed millions of households to weather this storm, yet families with student debt still struggle to stay afloat as every other aspect of American life becomes more expensive. Nationally, the average student loan payment is more than $300 per month, meaning a payment pause will significantly increase people’s ability to pay for gas, childcare, housing — everyday services and items needed to thrive. That’s why I urge President Biden to extend the pause on federal student loan payments, as a specific and effective way to save people money and keep dollars in the pockets of hardworking Coloradans,” Governor Polis wrote.
