Congressman Steve Chabot’s campaign issued the following statement Monday reacting to revelations from the first week of the trial of former Cincinnati City Councilman P.G. Sittenfeld.

“In just the first week of the trial of Greg Landsman’s former colleague and co-conspirator in scandal we learned Landsman was either complicit in putting his vote up for sale to the highest bidder, or so easily manipulated and grossly incompetent he did not realize he was casting corrupt votes,” Chabot campaign manager John Gomez said. “Greg Landsman was previously found guilty in the infamous ‘Gang of Five’ scandal and told to resign by a Hamilton County judge, now we are learning his implication in the most corrupt city council in Cincinnati history is even worse.”

“Either by complicity or incompetence, Greg Landsman’s vote was for sale and that should be disqualifying for any elected official,” Gomez continued. “Landsman should immediately abandon his dream of helping to keep his former boss Nancy Pelosi as Speaker of the House and apologize to the taxpayers of Cincinnati.”

Sittenfeld faces charges he sold the votes of his colleagues on Cincinnati City Council, including Greg Landsman. Sittenfeld is quoted in court documents telling FBI informants that “I can always get a vote to my left or a vote to my right.’ referring to Landsman.

In addition, “prosecutors allege [Sittenfeld] accepted $40,000 in contributions to his PAC, Progress and Growth, in exchange for support in passing legislation that would help developer Chinedum Ndukwe, who was working with two undercover FBI agents posing as out-of-town investors.” This occurred in 2019. Later in 2019, Landsman accepted $1,000 from Progress and Growth PAC. In 2020, he accepted $1,700 from Progress and Growth.
