Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, today announced that Tennessee will receive $1,256,554,233 from the historic Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) that only he and Congressman Jim Cooper (TN-05) in the Tennessee Congressional delegation voted for last year.
The new funding for Tennessee comes from twelve initiatives under the Department of Transportation’s Federal Highway Administration for the upcoming fiscal year. More than $80 million will be invested in Tennessee’s bridges and $33.9 million in its highways to meet future infrastructure needs.
Congressman Cohen made the following statement:
“The IIJA was the smartest investment we could make in America’s future and we’re seeing some immediate effects. I am proud to have supported this legislation but not in pointing out that it was supported by only me and Jim Cooper in the Tennessee delegation. Fixing bridges and highways is not a partisan issue.”
