Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (MI-12) today released the following statement in response to the Department of Veterans Affairs Inspector General’s Office of Healthcare Inspections initiating a review concerning allegations of misconduct at the John D. Dingell VA Medical Center in Detroit.

“It is important that this review is underway. The VA Secretary took my concerns seriously almost a year ago when I raised them, and addressed the leadership issues quickly. Now we must learn and understand all the facts about what was happening, and ensure veterans are receiving the best possible care going forward. The VA health system is an institution that was created to honor, serve, and respect the men and women who have served this nation. My husband’s name is on that hospital, and I remain committed to making sure patients are going to get the care they deserve at the John D. Dingell VA Medical Center.”

Earlier this month Rep. Dingell wrote to Secretary of Veterans Affairs Denis McDonough and VA Inspector General Michael J. Missal urging a review and for the department to address troubling reports raised by both veterans and hospital employees.
