Today, Congressman Chris Pappas (NH-01), a former member of the New Hampshire Executive Council, released the following statement after a majority on the Executive Council voted down family planning contracts and defunding vital health care for Granite Staters once again:
"Once again, the majority on the Executive Council has let extreme ideology and partisanship get in the way of the health and well-being of Granite Staters who rely on these family planning services that for decades have enjoyed bipartisan support on the Council. When I served as an Executive Councilor and considered these contracts, I saw how crucial these funds are to provide services, including birth control, annual exams, cancer screenings, and STI testing - and that is why I always followed the science and not politics when casting my vote. It is unthinkable that the majority on the Executive Council would again turn its back on women and families and defund the family planning and health care services that thousands rely on, and I remain committed to doing all I can to ensure that Granite Staters get the care and services they need."
Rep. Pappas has consistently and forcefully spoken out against the actions of the majority on the New Hampshire Executive Council, who have voted down family planning contracts in the past.
In December 2021, when the Executive Council voted down these contracts, Rep. Pappas joined the New Hampshire Congressional Delegation in sending a letter to HHS Secretary Becerra supporting Planned Parenthood of Northern New England's application for this grant to ensure critical health services for thousands of Granite Staters aren't cut due to funding shortfalls.
Following that letter, Rep. Pappas welcomed an announcement from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) that Planned Parenthood of Northern New England (PPNNE) will receive $500,000 through a Title X Dire Need Grant award.
