Today, Congressman Chris Pappas (NH-01) applauded the Senate's passage of the Chips and Science Act and called on the House to take up the bipartisan legislation without delay.
"I'm pleased that the Senate has passed this vital legislation to strengthen domestic manufacturing and innovation which I've been championing and fighting to pass in the House," said Congressman Pappas. "This is critical to boosting our domestic manufacturing, accelerating U.S. production of semiconductor chips, outcompeting China and the world, and helping lower costs for families and small businesses, all while creating new U.S. jobs. This is a matter of economic and national security, and it could not be more important for America to lead the world in this space and on-shore the production of more semiconductors and other vital technology. As I have for months, I urge Speaker Pelosi and House leadership to put this bipartisan legislation to a vote in the House without delay and send it to the President for his signature."
Last week, Pappas helped lead a bipartisan call on Speaker Nancy Pelosi and House leadership to bring the bipartisan United States Innovation and Competition Act (USICA) or CHIPS Plus approach to the House Floor before the end of July.
In April, Congressman Pappas was named to the bipartisan conference committee working to negotiate a final piece of legislation based on the House-passed America COMPETES Act and the Senate's United States Innovation and Competition Act of 2021 (USICA).
Pappas fought to pass the America COMPETES Act in February to make transformational new investments in research, innovation, and American manufacturing that will ensure that America can outcompete any nation in the world, now and for decades to come. That legislation also included provisions introduced and co-led by Pappas to strengthen ‘Made in America' provisions and support small manufacturers and rural businesses.
