Today, Charlie Crist, candidate for governor of Florida, hosted a virtual press conference blasting Ron DeSantis for his failure to help Florida homeowners facing a potentially catastrophic property insurance crisis as Hurricane Ian takes aim at our state.

Crist was joined by former State Senator Steve Geller who authored the 2007 legislation signed by then-Gov. Crist that stabilized the market, held insurance companies accountable, and lowered rates by 10 percent.

Specifically, Crist is calling on DeSantis to protect homeowners ahead of this potential crisis by requiring Citizens to assume all policies for homeowners that have been dropped by their failed insurance company for the next 90 days.

“Ron DeSantis is the worst property insurance governor in Florida history,” said Charlie Crist. “Yet another hurricane is poised to hammer Florida and hundreds of thousands of homeowners have lost their insurance coverage because they can’t afford their premiums or carriers have canceled their policies with no warning.
