Today, Charlie Crist, candidate for governor of Florida, released this statement in response to Governor DeSantis’s silence following Republican plans to cut Social Security benefits across the Sunshine State. 

Charlie’s first act in Congress was to introduce the Save Social Security Act that would protect benefits, end the double taxation of benefits for middle class seniors, and strengthen the program for another generation.

In a statement, Crist said:

“Nearly 7 million Floridians receive Social Security benefits they earned. For Ron DeSantis not to stand up to his own party’s plans to cut Social Security is reprehensible.

“Ron wants to lead the Republican Party, but he doesn’t have the courage to stand up to their plan to hurt seniors and people with disabilities.

“While Ron DeSantis keeps quiet on his party’s plans to cut Social Security, Florida seniors hear him loud and clear.”
