As Congressman Budd campaigned with Senator Lindsey Graham who first introduced legislation to ban abortion nationwide, Cheri Beasley for North Carolina called out Congressman Budd for lying about his record of pushing to ban abortion without exceptions.
“Congressman Budd’s last-ditch efforts to obscure his dangerous record on abortion just remind voters that he is a consummate Washington politician who will do anything to get power. The bottom line is that Congressman Budd has made it clear time and time again that he supports a ban on abortion without exceptions for rape, incest, or risk to a mother’s health and has done everything he can to make it a reality. With 20 days to go, voters know that the only candidate in this race who will protect their Constitutional freedoms is Cheri Beasley, who isn’t afraid to stand up against the attacks on our rights lodged by Congressman Budd and his extreme allies,” said spokesperson for the Cheri Beasley Campaign, Dory MacMillan.

Congressman Budd said that he will do “everything” to “push it all the way back to the point of conception.” When he was asked about supporting an exception for rape, incest, or threat to a mother’s life, he said that an abortion would be a “second tragedy” that should not be “added to a very tough situation.”
That’s not all. He’s tried to make his support for a total ban on abortion without exceptions a reality as an original cosponsor of the Sanctity of Human Life Act, which defines “human life at the beginning of fertilization,” outlaws abortion and bans common types of contraception. News outlets have repeatedly reported that “Budd has a firm record for opposing all abortions” and that 90 percent of North Carolinians disagree with Congressman Budd’s extreme position.
