After months of public and internal polling showing the North Carolina U.S. Senate race in a dead heat, Marist College released a new poll 13 days before the election showing Cheri Beasley tied with Congressman Ted Budd at 44 percent. Marist College, a top-rated polling firm, and polled over 1,000 respondents in this poll.
In their findings, Marist College said: “it wasn’t expected to be like this: Budd and Beasley are neck-and-neck in our brand-new poll.”
“This race is neck and neck 13 days out from Election Day because voters know that Cheri is the only candidate in this race that will put people first while Congressman Budd has spent six years focused on helping himself and his corporate donors at the expense of North Carolinians,” said Dory MacMillan, Communications Director for Cheri Beasley for North Carolina.
Marist also found that Cheri is leading with independents, a critical voting bloc in North Carolina where one-third of voters are registered unaffiliated. In addition, Marist found that a greater percentage of Cheri’s supporters are strongly committed to backing Cheri than those who are backing Congressman Budd.
