CLEVELAND – On Tuesday, Nina Turner aired her latest attack ad falsely vilifying Congresswoman Brown in an all-too-familiar attempt to tear down a Democrat. In the final days of this primary, Turner is once again on TV with solely negative advertising trying to salvage her flailing campaign by falsely attacking Congresswoman Brown. Campaign manager Darryle Torbert released the following statement:
“Unfortunately, Nina Turner’s campaign is using familiar injurious tactics days before the election to gain footing in a lopsided race. The false, negative ad is merely a distraction from the fact that Turner has repeatedly campaigned against and outwardly criticized President Biden and has no plans to work with him to improve conditions for the people of OH-11.”
“The truth is that Congresswoman Shontel Brown has a long history of favoring raising the minimum wage and has never been under an ethics investigation. Nina Turner knows what she is saying is false because when she first told this lie, news outlets discredited her accusation.”
“In fact, in less than six months, Congresswoman Brown has delivered on her promises to the district – to work with President Biden to deliver a comprehensive recovery from COVID and champion quality, accessible health care for all. She has spent her time in Congress building coalitions as a member of the NewDems, Congressional Progressive Caucus, and Congressional Black Caucus, and voted for the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which will bring historic funding to the state and residents of OH-11. She hit the ground running once she was elected and has not looked back.”
About Shontel Brown
Congresswoman Shontel Brown proudly serves the 11th Congressional District of Ohio, including Akron, Cleveland, and its eastern suburbs. Before being sworn into Congress in November 2021, Rep. Brown served as a Cuyahoga County Council Councilmember. She instituted a countywide 911 text message system; wrote the bipartisan bill that declared racism a public health crisis; worked to end no-bid government contracts; and protected residents from lead exposure and poisoning.
In her first week in Congress, Rep. Brown supported the passage of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. Signed into law by President Biden, the Infrastructure Law will bring good-paying, union jobs to Northeast Ohio and provide Ohio with $9 billion to repair roads, $1.2 billion to modernize public transit, $1.4 billion to deliver clean water to families, and $100 million to expand access to high-speed internet. Rep. Brown has been a coalition builder in Congress, working across the aisle and across the party to introduce legislation to improve veteran health and expand access to school meals. She has also co-sponsored legislation to protect Ohio workers against unfair trade practices, raise the minimum wage, and provide affordable healthcare for all. In Congress, Rep. Brown is carrying forth the legacy of her mentor and predecessor, Housing and Urban Development Secretary Marcia Fudge.
