U.S. Congressman French Hill (AR-02) issued the following statement after the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) released its 2021 Annual Report yesterday:

"I was pleased to see that within the 2021 Annual Report, 388 Coptic Churches and church-related properties were approved for registration in Egypt. As a longtime advocate for religious freedom – especially the rights of the Copts to freely practice – this is welcome news as I continue my bipartisan work in the House to pass my bill, H.Res 117, Supporting Coptic Christians in Egypt."

Further Background:

In February, Rep. Hill and Rep. David Cicilline (RI-01) introduced H.Res. 117, Supporting Coptic Christians in Egypt. The resolution calls on the Egyptian government to take further action to promote religious tolerance and end religious discrimination against Egypt’s Christian population.
