Today, on the two-year anniversary of the historic signing of the Abraham Accords, U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) – co-chair of the Senate Abraham Accords Caucus – joined a bipartisan resolution celebrating the achievements and ongoing efforts catalyzed by the peace deal.
“The Abraham Accords is the most significant peace agreement of the 21st Century,” said Ernst. “This bipartisan measure seeks to honor this monumental effort achieved by President Trump and his administration in bringing together our Arab allies and Israel to forge an unprecedented and lasting peace deal that has made America and the world more secure. As co-chair of the Senate Abraham Accords Caucus, I remain committed to expanding upon the Abraham Accords and defending America, and our allies, from Iranian aggression.”
Background:
Ernst, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, introduced the Deterring Enemy Forces and Enabling National Defenses (DEFEND) Act in June, which would require the Department of Defense to prepare a strategy to work in conjunction with Gulf Cooperation Council countries, Israel, Jordan, Egypt, and Iraq to develop integrated air and missile defense capabilities to protect the region from attacks by Iran and Iran-backed extremist groups.
Earlier this week, Ernst spoke at the America First Policy Institute’s and Abraham Accords Peace Institute’s celebration of the Abraham Accords.
