From October  14, 2022 post.

Today, Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA02) joined First Lady Dr. Jill Biden and stakeholder panelists for a roundtable discussion about the Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP) and the Joining Forces Initiative. EFMP provides housing, medical, educational, and personnel services to military families with a special needs family member, while Joining Forces is a White House initiative to support the families of servicemembers and veterans, caregivers, and survivors.

“Servicemembers must have the peace of mind to know their family is being taken care of at home so that they can do the best job in the line of duty,” said Congressman Bishop. “Services like the Exceptional Family Member Program and Joining Forces Initiative help make sure that families have the resources and assistance they may need to take care of their loved ones. It was wonderful welcoming First Lady Dr. Jill Biden to Columbus. She is a stalwart supporter of the Congressional Military Family Caucus and our military families.”

Congressman Bishop is the Co-Chair of the Congressional Military Family Caucus and the Vice Chair of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Military Construction and Veterans Affairs, which deals with military quality of life issues.

Each year, Congressman Bishop co-hosts the Congressional Military Family Summit with co-chair Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers (WA-05-R) alternately at the Infantry Museum and Soldier Center adjacent to Fort Benning and the Fairchild Airforce base near Spokane, Washington. During this event, servicemembers, their families, service organizations, and service providers provide feedback on military family issues and programs through panel discussions. The feedback is used by Congress to improve and fund these programs through the annual appropriations and national defense authorization bills.
