From October 24, 2022 post.
Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02) issued the following statement regarding the passing of Reverend Roy G. Plummer, a military veteran, educator, and longtime leader in several community-based and religiously-affiliated organizations:
“Retired Colonel Reverend Doctor Roy G. Plummer was a life-long servant of the people. A selfless spirit, he was the Senior Pastor and CEO of Faith Tabernacle Community Church in Columbus and had leadership roles in many community organizations like the Boy Scouts of America, the St. Francis Hospital Foundation, Columbus Hospice, and the United Way.
“He helped mold generations of young Americans as a JROTC director for the Muscogee School District and Assistant Professor at Columbus State University.
“He retired from the U.S. Army as a Colonel, completing his service as Chief of Chaplains at Fort Benning. He remained dedicated to his fellow veterans as a tireless advocate and founder of the Plummer Home for homeless veterans. Plummer Home has been a stalwart voice at the table to improve services for our veterans, including through recent roundtables that I hosted in Columbus with the Veterans Affairs Secretary and Housing and Urban Development Secretary.
“My wife, Vivian and I were blessed to call him our friend. We extend our deepest condolences to his wife, Kenyetta, and the entire Plummer family during this time of bereavement. While he will be dearly missed, his legacy of service to God, country, and humanity will endure for generations to come.”
