Today, Congresswoman Nikema Williams (GA-05), and Representatives Brad Schneider (IL-10), Brenda L. Lawrence (MI-14), Debbie Wasserman Schultz (FL-23), and Kathy Manning (NC-06) introduced a resolution to censure Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene following her social media posts correlating President Joe Biden to Adolf Hitler.

Despite her apology, on September 1, 2022, Rep. Greene posted a tweet correlating President Biden to Adolf Hitler that said, “Joe Biden is Hitler. #NaziJoe has to go.” She then tweeted a doctored video depicting President Biden speaking with audio of Hitler, swastikas in the background, and a mustache akin to that of Hitler.

Congresswoman Williams said:

“When people show you who they are, believe them. Representative Greene has shown throughout her time in Congress that she is a racist antisemite who peddles baseless conspiracy theories. There should be no room in the United States Congress for members like that. Despite having already stripped Representative Greene of her committee assignments and censuring her for reprehensible rhetoric, I am sure we will have to hold her accountable again soon. Representative Greene is unfit for the office she holds.” 

Congressman Schneider said:

“In the face of rising antisemitism, xenophobia, racism, and white supremacy, civic leaders have a duty to condemn such hate and bigotry rather than amplify and spread dangerous, divisive rhetoric for political purposes.

I called out Rep. Greene in 2021 when she debased the memory of all those murdered in the Holocaust, and the heroic men and women who fought and died defending democracy against Hitler and his evil. Shortly afterwards, she apologized and said she understood the harm of false comparisons to the singular evil of the Nazis.

“Her recent comments demonstrate that clearly, she has not learned, or worse perhaps, she doesn’t care. She continues to dismiss the horrors of the Holocaust and use vile comparisons to incite her fans and divide our nation. Her hateful rhetoric has no place in our politics and certainly not in the chambers of Congress. She owes the American people, the survivors and families of those persecuted by the Nazis, and every family of what is still the ‘Greatest Generation’ an apology.

“Rep. Greene demonstrated that her apology in June 2021 was insincere and that she remains devoted to sullying the reputation of the House of Representatives. So, my colleagues and I introduced a resolution to censure her for these contemptible behaviors. I call on my colleagues, on both sides of the aisle, to condemn her loathsome rhetoric and show that the United States Congress does not condone hate in our halls of government.”

Congresswoman Lawrence said:

“We, as Members of Congress, have a duty to condemn–not reinforce–racism and hate. Just as I stand up against systemic racism and bias toward the African American community, I will use my voice whenever I witness hateful behavior. Representative Greene’s inappropriate remarks not only debase the families and victims of the Holocaust but is an example of antisemitic misinformation. Let me be absolutely clear: we must always speak out against hate and racism. We cannot allow these comments to go unchecked.”

Congresswoman Wasserman Schultz said:

“Marjorie Taylor Greene continues to inflict dishonor on the House of Representatives by her repeated acts of hateful, incendiary language, continuing a lengthy pattern of appalling conduct that clearly merits censure. Her repeated, intentional disregard for the unique evil of the Holocaust, including her most recent act, not only trivializes Hitler and his horrific Nazi crimes, but it deploys a manipulated, inflammatory rhetoric that we know fuels hatred, extremism, and violence amid a rise in antisemitism. We must speak with one voice to repudiate this conduct and protect the integrity of the House.” 

Congresswoman Manning said:

“We cannot accept such appalling and unacceptable rhetoric from a member of Congress, especially at a time when antisemitism is on the rise. Making comparisons to Hitler, and trivializing the Holocaust is a disgrace to the memory of the 6 million Jews murdered by the Nazis. There should be no place for this type of rhetoric in our government and politics. We need leaders to condemn hate, not spread it.”
