On Tuesday, U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham (R- S.C.) introduced the Protecting Pain-Capable Unborn Children from Late-Term Abortions Act in the United States Senate that would aim to ban abortions after 15 weeks across the country.
According to Graham, 15 weeks is when an unborn child is able to feel pain.
However, Dr. Annie Andrews, Democratic candidate for the First Congressional District's U.S. House seat, released a statement on Tuesday calling Graham's proposed legislation both "anti-science" and "anti-woman."
"For decades politicians like Lindsey Graham and Nancy Mace have argued that abortion should be left to the states. This has never been about ‘states rights.’ They have used that lie to give themselves more and more power to enact their tyrannical, anti-science, anti-woman policies. And no matter how Nancy Mace spins her extreme position, the fact remains that this is what she and her Republican allies have been working towards for decades. They will not stop until they have a say in your every decision. They can not be trusted. Vote. Them. Out."
Graham's newly proposed legislation comes days after South Carolina senators rejected a near-total abortion ban for the Palmetto State.
