Dr. Annie Andrews, a Lowcountry pediatrician and Democratic candidate for South Carolina's First Congressional District, is set to address a proposed near total abortion ban in South Carolina on Wednesday.
Andrews will be one of 100 speakers talking about the bill during the South Carolina Senate Medical Affairs Committee’s hearing.
South Carolina's current abortion law, dubbed the "fetal heartbeat bill," bans the procedure once cardiac activity can detected in a fetus. This typically happens around the six-week mark.
However, the new proposal looks to go even further and would ban all abortions, except when the mother's life is in danger. Unlike the state's current law, the bill has no exceptions written into it for pregnancies caused by rape or incest.
