Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) campaigned in Snohomish County, meeting with voters and supporters and discussing her work fighting for Washington families, an economy that works for everyone — not just those at the top — and other key issues on the ballot. With just five days until ballots are due, Patty is staying active on the campaign trail with a packed schedule of Patty for WA Campaign Tour meet and greets, Get Out The Vote Stops, and town halls to emphasize key issues at stake in this election and encourage voters to turn in their ballots. This morning, Patty met with members of the Tulalip Tribes at their Gathering Hall, where they discussed issues important to Tribal communities. Patty is a proud voice in the U.S. Senate for Washington State’s 29 federally recognized Tribes. Through the recently passed American Rescue Plan and Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, Patty made it a priority to deliver the largest ever federal investments in Tribes for housing, education, broadband, and more. Patty also led the fight in Congress to pass the Violence Against Women Act so that the legislation would protect Native women and make it so domestic abusers who commit crimes on Tribal lands can be prosecuted by Tribes for their crimes.
Afterwards, Patty met with firefighters at the Tulalip Bay Fire Department. The Inflation Reduction Act Senator Murray helped pass this summer made historic investments in wildfire prevention, management, mitigation and recovery — including $5 billion in grants to support healthy, fire resilient forests, forest conservation, and drought and fire resilient agricultural practices. Murray also played a key role in passing the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law last year, which secured salary increases for federal firefighters across the country and also provided funding for community wildfire defense grants, mechanical thinning, controlled burns, the Collaborative Forest Restoration Program, and other federal firefighting resources.
Next, Patty stopped by a field office in Everett — with chocolate chip cookies in hand — to thank volunteers and field organizers for knocking on doors, making phone calls, and sending texts to Get Out The Vote in Snohomish County.
Patty then headed to a coffee shop in Mountlake Terrace for a “Pro-Coffee, Pro-Patty” event with voters, supporters, and Rep. Suzan DelBene, to discuss Patty’s work to lower everyday costs for families and to protect Social Security and Medicare for everyone — unlike her opponent.
Patty has repeatedly fought back in the U.S. Senate against Republican efforts to privatize or otherwise cut Social Security and Medicare. Patty also played a key role in passing the Inflation Reduction Act, major legislation that will lower health care costs and energy costs for millions of Americans, cap the price of insulin and prescription drugs for seniors, and for the first time empowers Medicare to negotiate lower prescription drug prices for seniors. Tiffany Smiley opposed the Inflation Reduction Act and has also said she supports Senator Rick Scott’s plan to put Social Security and Medicare on the chopping block.
