Concert Terms: Self Defense or Alcohol

Wednesday, February 23rd, Country music legend Collin Raye held a concert in Emmett, Idaho in support of Ammon Bundy for Governor. The morning of the concert, we were forced to make a decision.

Country music legend Collin Raye recently held a concert in Emmett, Idaho in support of Ammon Bundy for Governor. In harmony with initial communication from the venue, and with awareness of restrictions imposed by Idaho state law (18-3302B) regarding firearms and alcohol, we planned the event so it could accommodate both those intending to carry a personal firearm, and those wishing to consume alcohol.

However, the morning of the concert we were informed by the venue that our planned arrangement to accommodate all guests would not be allowed. We were left with a choice to make. We could either disarm everyone at the door, in favor of serving alcohol to a few. Or, we could maintain and support the people’s right of self-defense, but incur additional expense to the venue ($5,000+), for their loss of alcohol sales during the concert. We decided it was better the people maintain their rights over the option of purchasing a drink. This was the correct choice.

Ultimately, the concert was a success, and those that chose to come had a great time – some even stating it was the best concert they had ever attended. Many thanks to those that participated and helped organize it. Collin Raye was a delight to listen to and was pleased to support us in this effort.

As Governor, I will always support and defend your rights, including the right to protect yourself.
