U.S. Congressman Ed Case (HI-01) – U.S. Congressman Ed Case (HI-01), a member of the U.S. House Committee on Appropriations, announced that Hawai’i will receive $61,101,570 from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Transit Administration.
“The funds will enable transportation agencies throughout our state to buy new buses, address their repair backlogs, modernize their fleets, and transition to new technologies to address the climate crisis,” said Case.
“This is just the latest of many disbursements to Hawai’i from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Package (BIP), the largest federal reinvestment ever in our backbone infrastructure across the country,” said Case. “BIP will eventually deliver some $3 billion to our state for roads and bridges, water infrastructure, climate resilience projects, access to the Internet and much more.”
The first round of funds from the BIP in December amounted to $49 million for Hawaii’s airports. That was followed in January with $339 million of funding over five years to repair and maintain the state’s bridges and culverts.
Last November, Case voted for the historic $1.2 trillion Bipartisan Infrastructure Package which included $20 billion to support the country’s transit projects. The President signed the measure into law a few days later.
