The Central Valley has less than half as many doctors per capita as the Bay Area
WASHINGTON – Today, Representative Josh Harder announced that Valley Consortium for Medical Education will receive $1,754,181 in new federal funds to continue their work training medical professionals in the Central Valley.
Valley Consortium is a non-profit based out of Modesto that delivers first class training for residents and medical students throughout the Central Valley. They represent over 800 acute care hospital beds, more than 150,000 emergency room visits, 24,000 major surgical cases and over 50,000 admissions annually. According to the governor’s office, the Central Valley has just 157 medical doctors for every 100,000 residents, compared to 411 doctors per 100,000 residents in the Bay Area.
“We need more doctors in the Valley plain and simple, and the best way to bring doctors here is to train them here,” said Rep. Harder. “Every family in the Valley deserves medical care that’s affordable and close to home. This $1.7 million investment makes brings that future a little bit closer to reality.”
This grant illustrates Rep. Harder’s continued determination to bring new doctors to the Central Valley. It comes on top of the $1.18 million he brought home for the Valley Consortium last year.
